Buffalo Grove High School

As a result of his consistent high-level performance during the fall boys’ varsity soccer season, senior Kevin Eloiza was selected to the 2018 Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State Soccer Team. During the season, Kevin scored nine goals with 18 assists and was instrumental in leading the Buffalo Grove boys’ varsity soccer team to a 14-5-2 record and their first MSL championship in 30 years. Kevin also was selected as captain for the Daily Herald Northwest All-Area Team and recognized by the MSL coaches as co-player of the year in the MSL East Division.

John Hersey High School

On November 3, the best cross country teams in the state came together at Detweiller Park to battle it out for supremacy. With more than 760 public and private schools in the IHSA, Hersey placed second overall.

Along with the state runner-up finish, the team earned the titles of division, conference, regional and sectional champs. Hersey junior Josh Methner captured the overall IHSA individual state title. His time of 14 minutes and 11 seconds was the fastest time on the day from every class, breaking the previous school record set by Hersey alumnus Kevin Havel, a four-time all-state runner.

Members of the team are Quinn Born, Ryan Buch, Nick Caraba, Tim Choma, Josh Harden, Luke Linscott, Thomas McCarthy, Josh Methner, Connor Oiler, Jason Palafox, Colin Safford, Sam Stubbs, Max Svienty and Luis Vazquez.

Prospect High School

More than 2,000 students competed in the national write-off competitions at the JEA/NSPA national journalism convention in Chicago in November, and only 141 of them were given the ultimate honor of a Superior Rating.

Prospect senior Madeline McTigue was one of two students to earn a Superior Rating in her category of Yearbook Design Theme and senior Ayse Eldes was one of 20 students to be named Superior in her category of News Writing. Making this accomplishment even more impressive was that both of these students placed in this national competition last year in Dallas, with Madeline earning an honorable mention rating and Ayse earning an excellent rating. To be recognized once nationally is an incredible feat but to do so for two consecutive years is a testament to the excellence these two have shown in the field of journalism throughout their time at Prospect.

Wheeling High School

Wheeling senior Jared Urueta was selected to the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association's All-State Boys Soccer Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest team. In addition, he was selected to be the co-player of the year for the MSL East, All Conference and All Area. Jared scored 23 goals and had four assists during his senior season. During his career, he had a total of 38 goals and eight assists.
