An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as the October 2016 Student of the Month.
From the Student Services Department, junior Viridiana Garcia from Buffalo Grove has been nominated by teacher Teresa Deal. She states, ”I would like to nominate Viridiana Garcia for student of the month. She has demonstrated excellence in her academic success and by challenging herself in higher-level classes. She is an excellent role model for her peers; she is sweet and a hard worker.”
The Math and Science department would like to congratulate Buffalo Grove resident, sophomore David Russo as their student of the month. Mathematics teacher Thomas Cooney is his nominator. “I'd like to nominate David Russo. He has been terrific in Geometry this year! He has completed every assignment with effort and it shows on his assessments as he has done very well. If he misses class (which has only been twice), he emails and asks what he missed in class and makes up the missing work in the appropriate time frame. David has also been a solid contributor when going over concepts with the entire class and helps others at his table.“
Junior Anahi Gonzalez from Buffalo Grove has been nominated in the English and Fine Arts department. English teacher Jeff Vlk reports, “Anahi is a wonderful student. She is quiet in class, but works tirelessly on her writing, always seeking help and ensuring that her assignments are turned in on time and to the standard that I set. Even though she does not participate in big group conversations, the insight she gives in small group conversations or in 1 on 1 scenarios is very mature and worldly. She has admittedly has never drank or smoked, and spends her weekends with her church group and teaching.”
Physical Education teacher Michelle Carrison heartily nominates senior and Arlington Heights resident Gabriela Yordanova for the PE/Health department. “Gabby is always prepared and ready to dance, swim or work out. She is a great dancer and is always working to improve her technique. She is self-motivated during stretches and warm up in class. Gabby is a great role model for PE and is a pleasure to have in class.”
Brittany Lee, a Buffalo Grove senior, has been nominated for student of the month in the Career and Technical Education department. CTE teacher Sara Farrell recommends Brittany, saying “Brittany Lee is a stand out designer in graphic arts. She is creative and innovative in the designs she creates. Brittany has collaborated with numerous teachers and administrators at BGHS to design and print various projects to enhance their classroom or events. You can see some of her work in the business entrepreneurship room, C107. She always has a positive attitude, which makes working with her a real pleasure. In the world of graphic design there are always edits and changes that need to be made and Brittany is quick to make them and get professional products delivered in a timely manner. Brittany Lee is an amazing young lady and a top-notch graphic design student.”
Danielle Ossman, a Spanish language teacher in the World Language, Social Science and English Language Learners department, has nominated Angelica Cannata. Angelica is a senior from Arlington Heights. “Angelica Cannata is our student of the month thanks to her exceptional performance in AP Spanish. Angelica is an articulate speaker and demonstrates strong written expression. She works extremely hard and flawlessly integrates the culture into all aspects of class. Her active participation, kindness and work ethic make her an asset to our class. ¡Buen trabajo, Angelica!”
Buffalo Grove High School is extremely proud of the students of the month and their dedication to continued learning.
