  1. Ou​r first​ Saturday School of the semester is this Saturday, February 25th!  This is a great opportunity to access the BG staff and resources to help bring your grades up.  Bring a friend and study - if you have a question, we can help!  Saturday School runs from 8:30 to 11:00 am in the BGHS library.  Please use Entrance #1 by the Theater.  See your teacher if you would like to have work or make-up tests left for you.  Any questions? Attention Class of 2018:   Learn more about the college selection process by attending "Ask the College Night" at Forest View Educational Center on Thursday, February 16 at 7:00 pm.  Come learn what it would be like to attend different types of institutions:  your local community college, a four-year in-state public school, a four-year out-of-state public school, and a four-year private school.  You will have the opportunity to ask the school representatives any questions you may have about these types of schools.  See Mrs. Fox if you have any questions.
  3. Attention student filmmakers:  Walk the red carpet and win cash and prizes! If you are a high school student and make movies in any category of video production, from narrative films to documentaries, music videos to animation, submit to the 2017 CinéStudent Film Festival hosted by the Elk Grove High School Film Club.  This annual film festival is dedicated to honoring the creativity of student filmmakers in digital media and providing them with the means and substance to pursue a career in film.  The deadline to submit is February 20.   1. “You don't make progress by standing on the sidelines, whimpering and complaining. You make progress by implementing ideas.”, Shirley Chisholm.  Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1924, Shirley Chisholm is best known for becoming the first black congresswoman in 1968, representing New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives for seven terms. She went on to run for the 1972 Democratic nomination for the presidency. She became the first major-party black candidate to make a bid for the U.S. presidency. Throughout her political career, Chisholm fought for education opportunities and social justice for African Americans. Chisholm left Congress in 1983 to teach.  A champion of minority education and employment opportunities throughout her life, her most famous quote is “unbossed and unbought”.  She died in 2005. Nearly 11 years later, in November 2015, she was posthumously awarded the distinguished Presidential Medal of Freedom by former President Barack Obama.
