Graduation 2008
General Information

The Buffalo Grove High School Commencement Ceremony will be held in the gymnasium on Sunday, June 1st at 1:00 p.m. Gymnasium doors open at 12:00 noon. All graduates should report to the field house no later than 12:30 p.m. Parking will be very challenging, so please make arrangements to drop off graduates if possible. Graduation rehearsal will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, May 30th in the BGHS gymnasium. All students must attend this graduation rehearsal. Every student must cooperate and follow the directions and procedures during this rehearsal. Caps/gowns and tickets for the graduation ceremony will be distributed after rehearsal in the field house. Any student who does not attend the rehearsal or comply with directions may be excluded from the graduation ceremony.

Tickets

Each family will receive 4 tickets for the graduation ceremony. There will be space in the theater and cafeteria for 2 additional family members to watch the ceremony on closed circuit television. Tickets are limited due to fire restrictions in the school gymnasium. There are no additional tickets available. Please do not call the school asking for more tickets.

General Behavior

All school rules and policies will be observed and enforced. This includes, but not limited to the defiance of authority, disruptive behavior, and the use or possession of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of any object that would disrupt the graduation rehearsal or ceremony or cause injury to anyone will cause the student to be removed. This is for the protection and safety of everyone.

Student Dress

Students must come properly dressed to the graduation rehearsal and ceremony. Please observe the following dress code:

The traditional dress for academic graduation is the cap and gown. We ask that the cap and gown not be altered in anyway. Honor cords and senior award medallions may be worn over the gowns. No jewelry, flowers, scarves, or other ornaments may be displayed on the cap and gown.

Appropriate attire under the cap and gown is required. Jeans, shorts, athletic wear, sport shoes, and rubber flip flops are not appropriate.

Your personal items such as coats, purses, cameras cannot be carried during the ceremony. Storage for these items will not be available. Students should have their parents keep them for them during the ceremony.

Graduation Pictures


For your convenience, we have made arrangements with Chappell Studio for a professional photographer to record the moment you are awarded your diploma. You will receive a passport-size, full color proof in the mail approximately one week after the ceremony. There is no obligation to purchase, and you will have the option of ordering several enlargement packages at very reasonable prices. This service will enable all students to have a photograph of their graduation. Family members and friends are encouraged to remain in their seats and enjoy the ceremony. Personal picture taking can be done prior to or after the convocation. Chappell Studio guarantees complete satisfaction with your photograph or you will receive a full refund with no questions asked.

Graduation Photography Preregistration Email Link is Available Today!

In an effort to inform the parents about photos at the upcoming graduation ceremony, Chappell Studios has developed a new preregistration system which allows the graduates and/or their parents to provide their email and mailing address information to Chappell prior to the ceremony. They can also add up to 6 family members' contact information as well to help share the good news and the photos!

Your Graduates can preregister their email, friends and family email addresses and Graduation Images will contact them just as soon as their photos are available for online viewing and ordering.



Frequently Asked Questions

How many graduation tickets will I get? Can I get more?

Due to seating limitations in the school gymnasium, there are only 4 tickets available per family. Tickets are given to the graduates during the rehearsal on May 30th. There are no additional tickets available, please do not call the school asking for more.

Do I need tickets to view the graduation by video in the cafeteria or theater?

Each family can bring 2 additional guests to watch the ceremony on closed circuit television in the Theater or Cafeteria. Tickets are not required to watch the video.

When do the doors open?

The gymnasium doors open at 12:00 noon.

Can we bring balloons?

No balloons will not be allowed in the gymnasium during the ceremony. Please keep them in your car for after the ceremony.

Where is parking? Is there handicap parking?

Attendants will be on duty to assist in parking in the student parking lot. The parking lot can be accessed from Arlington Heights Road or Dundee Road. There will be no open parking in front of the building. Attendants will assist with handicapped parking in the bus lanes located very close to the entrance to the gymnasium. Only vehicles with an official Handicapped Parking Tag will be permitted to park in this area.

If the parking lot becomes full, there will be overflow parking Available at Longfellow Elementary School, 501 S. Arlington Heights Rd. Buffalo Grove.

Is there special seating for the handicapped? How many family members can sit with them?

The first row of bleachers and one row of chairs in front of the bleachers is designated for handicapped individuals on the balcony side of the gym. There will be a staff member inside of the gym assisting with handicap seating. There is only enough room for one family member to sit with the handicapped individual in the designated handicapped area.

Can I get up and take pictures as my child walks across the stage?

Chappell Studios has been contracted to take pictures of every graduate as they walk across the stage. They will contact every family with the opportunity to purchase copies of the photographs.

Will I be able to purchase a copy of the video from the ceremony?

A videographer has been contracted to videotape the entire ceremony. Copies of the video tape or DVD will be available from Zaker Video Productions for $30.00 ($25.00 plus $5.00 for shipping and handling). Complete information, along with an order form, will be mailed to all seniors. You can also order online at www.zakervideo.com.

How long does the ceremony last?

The ceremony usually lasts 60 - 70 minutes.

Is there a dress code for the graduates?

Is there a reception in the school after the ceremony?

No, families typically have preferred private family ceremonies off site.

What time do the Graduates have to be there?

Graduates have to be in the Field House no later than 12:30 p.m.

Where do we get our tickets?

Tickets are given to the graduates at the graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 30th.

When do graduates get their cap and gown?

Caps and Gowns are distributed in the field house immediately following the graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 30th.
