The Buffalo Grove High School Music Department is thrilled to present the first ever Winter Celebration, which will feature a musical storytelling of the beloved children’s classic, “The Polar Express!”  On December 16 (7pm) and 17 (2pm) the gymnasium will become a magnificent concert venue as audience members young and old join together to hear the classic story told through word and sound.  Tickets for all ages are just $5 each and may be purchased at bghswintercelebration.brownpapertickets.com

The event will feature the Symphonic Bands (directed by Henry Kappler), combined Choirs (directed by Debora Utley), and the BGHS Full Orchestras, (directed by Elizabeth Bennett).  Music selections will include well-loved pieces from the movie such as “Spirit of the Season” and “Hot Chocolate,” as well as selections that aid in telling the story such as Prokofiev’s “Troika” and even an audience sing-a-long of Leroy Anderson’s classic “Sleigh Ride.”

Concessions will be available before, during, and after each performance.  Coloring pages, designed by BGHS music students, will be included in the program for little ones to color along as they hear the sounds of the story.  Additionally, following both performances audience members are invited to extend their experience by visiting the craft station, Instrument Petting Zoo, and even have pictures taken with the jolly man himself, Santa!  (Santa will only be present at the Sunday performance).

The performances take place in the Buffalo Grove High School Gym on Saturday, December 16 at 7pm and Sunday, December 17 at 2pm and last approximately one hour.  The show is intended for all ages, young and old.  Tickets are just $5 each and may be purchased online in advance, or at the door, while supplies last.  Purchase tickets online at bghswintercelebration.brownpapertickets.com  For questions contact the Buffalo Grove High School Music Directors at 847.718.4047.
