Mandarin Students Are Award-Winners in 7th Midwest Chinese Speech Contest

Mandarin Chinese students from Buffalo Grove High School and John Hersey High School competed on April 25 in the 7th Midwest Chinese Speech Contest at Northside College Preparatory High School in Chicago, bringing home prestigious awards for their performances. Elizabeth Bennett, Director of Orchestras at Buffalo Grove High School, will be recognized at Northwestern University's honors ceremony on June 18 and commencement on June 19 as one of five high school educators to receive the fifth annual Distinguished Secondary Teacher Award. Ami Relf, English teacher at Buffalo Grove High School, has again been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) "Summer Scholar" from a applicant pool of over 240 teachers across the country to attend one of 25 seminars and institutes supported by the NEH.
